Emma Dawson is a versatile theatre professional specialising in stage management, lighting design, and set design—a combination that allows her to support productions from both a creative and technical perspective. Recently awarded a bursary by Theatre and Dance NI through their Invest programme to further her skills within the backstage world of live theatre.
With a background that blends artistic vision and technical precision, Emma brings a unique edge to every project she works on. Her degree in Mathematics underpins her highly organised approach to stage management, from detailed reporting and scheduling to curated spreadsheets and production logistics. This analytical skillset, paired with her hands-on theatre experience, ensures that every production runs smoothly behind the scenes.
Emma’s technical understanding extends across lighting and set design, enabling her to collaborate effectively across departments while also delivering creative solutions herself. Whether she’s programming lighting, coordinating cues, or shaping the visual environment of a performance, she brings clarity, efficiency, and creativity in equal measure.
Outside of the theatre, Emma’s passion for crafting and creative hobbies plays a valuable role in her work. From sewing a curtain for a production at short notice, to painting set pieces or repairing costumes mid-show, her practical skills and resourcefulness make her an invaluable presence backstage. She thrives in problem-solving situations and is always ready to step in wherever needed.
